FAQs about Career Coaching

What is Coaching?

Coaching involves getting personalised support from a professional coach to help you make decisions and changes in your life. Coaches ask a lot of questions and help you explore the answers. This can help you clarify what’s important to you, set goals, overcome barriers and most importantly, take steps to achieve the change you want. Coaching is focussed on results and outcomes.

Career coaching can help you answer questions such as ‘What career is right for me?’ and ‘How do I go about getting a job?’. A career coach can also offer practical guidance and assistance along the way, in terms of job search strategies, writing resumes, applying for jobs, and answering interview questions.

What are the benefits?

Sometimes we’re not sure what we want, or how to go about getting it, or we lose focus and give up on our goals if it all becomes too hard. Coaching can help you to:

  • Identify what’s important to you
  • Set appropriate goals and targets
  • Actively pursue your goals and monitor your progress
  • Stay on track and deal with any barriers or distractions.

An experienced coach can also act as a mentor and provide specialist expertise and knowledge that will give you the edge over other candidates.

How does it work?

When you first make contact, the coach will ask you some questions to find out a little bit about you and what you would like to get out of the coaching. This conversation helps both you and the coach clarify whether coaching is appropriate, the likely number of sessions required, and the desired outcomes. Once you decide to proceed, a mutual time is agreed for the coaching session(s). Each session is usually 30-60 minutes, and can be either face-to-face, by telephone or over the internet.

How many sessions does it take?

There is no set number of sessions. It all depends on the individual and what you want to get out of the coaching. You can request as many sessions as you feel you need, or that fit with your budget.

Where does the coaching take place?

Coaching can take place over the telephone, via the internet or services such as FaceTime or Skype. In some instances it may be possible to receive coaching in person at a mutually convenient location.

Is it confidential?

Yes, all discussions between you and the coach are strictly confidential.

What does it cost?

For one-on-one coaching an hourly rate applies, and payment is requested up front at each session.

How do I pay?

Payment can be made by PayPal or bank transfer. A tax invoice is provided for all services.
