Having trouble deciding on the right career for you? Or what your next career move should be? Career coaching can help you find the answers!
Career coaching involves personalised support from a professional coach to help you make decisions and changes in your life. Coaches ask a lot of questions and help you explore the answers. This can help you clarify what’s important to you and take active steps to achieve the change you want. Coaching is focussed on results and outcomes.
Career coaching can help you answer questions such as ‘What career is right for me?’ and ‘How do I go about landing my dream job?’ A career coach can also offer practical guidance and assistance along the way, in terms of job search strategies, preparing resumes and other documents, applying for jobs, and answering interview questions.
What are the benefits?
Sometimes we’re not sure what we want, or how to go about getting it, or we lose focus and give up on our goals if it all becomes too hard. Career coaching can help you to:
- Identify what’s important to you
- Set appropriate goals and targets
- Actively pursue your goals and monitor your progress
- Stay on track and deal with any barriers or distractions.
A career coach can also act as a mentor and provide specialist expertise and knowledge that will give you the edge over other candidates.
How does it work?
When you first make contact, the coach will ask you some questions to find out a little bit about you and what you would like to get out of the coaching. This conversation helps both you and the coach clarify whether coaching is appropriate, the likely number of sessions required, and the desired outcomes. Once you decide to proceed, a mutual time is agreed for the coaching session(s). Each session is usually 30-60 minutes, and can be either face-to-face, by telephone or over the internet.
